The Irondequoit Kiwanis Annual Chili Cook-Off for Charity began in 2004 on the Saturday before the Superbowl. A few Kiwanians wanted to get together to share their chili, play a few games and just relax. It stated with 20 pewople and has grown to a crowd of over 300 attendees and 26-30 chili entries. We decided to charge a nominal amount for the attendees and to give it away to a charity.
Each year a Children’s Charity is picked and we are proud to donate 100% of the proceeds collected to that years Charity Designee.
The Kiwanis Club of Irondequoit underwrites all costs associated with the Chili Cook-Off so that 100% of your money goes to that charity.

Some of the charities we have supported with our Chili Cook-Off are the Children’s Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Golisano Children’s Hospital, RHETT Syndrome, Stepping Stones Learning Center, Eastridge High School Kiwanis Key Club, and Kessler Burn Center,  to name just a few.

Volunteering Makes a Difference!

We need you!

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do much”, said Helen Keller. This quote speaks volumes to the power of individuals coming together to make a difference.

Many of you have volunteered in the past and we hope you will come back to join us!

Here is an opportunity to give back to the community by helping raise money for the children in need.

How you can help?

Here are some areas in which you might volunteer:

  • Set-Up or Tear-Down
  • Help display signage within community
  • Assist at the entrance gate directing traffic, selling tickets, etc.
  • Running the beverage booths
  • Decorating the venue
  • 50/50 ticket sales
  • Prize basket sales
  • Event promotion

  • You may want to "field test" your chili before the day of the competition, to see how you and your friends would rate it against the five points listed above.
  • Although cooks are only required to prepare at least one (1) gallon of chili for the competition, we suggest you make a larger batch - say 3-5 gallons or more. The team with the most chili always has the best chance to win the People's Choice Award.
  • Give away extra goodies with your chili samples for the public, at your booth or table, such as chopped onions, grated cheese, hot peppers, beans, etc. This "stretches" your batch of chili and goes a long way in getting votes for the People’s Choice Award.
  • Add a bit of showmanship to your booth or table, with decorations, or dress in wild, crazy or colorful costumes. Music may be allowed as long as the volume is limited and it does not interfere with your neighbors or the event entertainment. Have fun!
  • If you want to serve your chili Hot (temperature), please bring it hot in a crock pot. Also, please bring a seving spoon. If you have an extra extension cord or power strip, please bring it.
